Description

Echo is a single-file, retro-styled serial terminal that runs directly in Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Chromium Edge, Brave, Opera, etc.). No install, no drivers from Echo — just open the file and connect.
Quick start
1. Open Echo.html with a Chromium-based browser (drag it into a tab or File → Open).
2. Click Connect and pick your serial device from the list.
3. Choose Baud and Enter line ending (CR, LF, CRLF).
4. Type in the terminal to interact with your device.

Highlights
- Retro amber CRT look with scanlines, flicker, and corners
- Adjustable “Glitch” presets (Off / Subtle / Medium / Heavy) with a soft scanning band
- Blinking cursor, smooth autoscroll, Backspace/Arrows/Ctrl-keys
- Line ending selector (CR / LF / CRLF)
- Terminal font selector (System, Courier New, Retro) — terminal only; UI stays system
- Device name shown on connect (via WebUSB when allowed) and baud rate
- All preferences saved locally (browser localStorage)
Compatibility
- Desktop: Chrome/Chromium 89+ and compatible browsers on macOS / Windows / Linux
- Not supported: iOS/iPadOS Safari (no Web Serial), most mobile browsers
- Runs offline; no network required. All data stays on your machine.
Tips
- If Enter appears twice in other terminals, set Echo’s Enter to CRLF (or CR/LF to match your firmware).
- If the device doesn’t appear, close other serial apps (they may hold the port) and try again.
- If the browser says Web Serial isn’t supported, use the latest Chrome/Edge/Brave on desktop.
Known behavior
- Local echo is off by default (what you see is what the device sends back).
- Web Serial access is per-tab permission; you may be prompted by the browser when asking for device names.
Credits & inspiration
Echo is inspired by Cathode and Retro Cool Term and ,of course, video monitors of the past.
Support
Include your OS, browser version, and a short description of your device/baud settings when reporting issues.
